MADANG PADDLE ODYSSEY TOUR

Adventurous travellers looking to experience Papua New Guinea, from a unique perspective, look no further than this kayaking paddle tour.

This paddling experience is unlike any other offered in PNG.

Tour itinerary

Day 1- Early morning (8:00 a.m) meet at Jackson’s Airport Domestic terminal in readiness for the flight to Madang. Arrive in Madang mid-morning. Settle in to the Madang Lodge, overlooking Astrolabe Bay. After lunch, get acquainted with Madang Township, including a visit to the Madang Cultural Centre. Evening relaxation.

Day 2- Morning tours to the south coastal village of Bil Bil, then on to Balek Sanctuary and Hobe Village in the low mountain region for cultural experiences and tales of WW2 history. The afternoon will be spent readying for the next day’s paddling.

Day 3- Paddle from Madang town to Tab (Pig) Island to enjoy some relaxation, snorkelling and swimming, with the option of a SCUBA dive. Early afternoon paddle to Krangket Island where we will camp for the night. Explore Krangket and get to know a few of the locals.

Day 4- Paddle through Madang Harbour and its many islands, with stops at various points of interest. After a visit to Nagada Mission, we will reach Jais Aben Resort for an afternoon and evening of relaxation. You will get to experience traditional “Bamboo Band” music, unique to this region.

Day 5- 20km paddle up the north coast to Ululan Village. Plan to arrive around lunchtime so we enjoy relaxation in the calm waters created by a spit of land separating the mainland and open ocean. Camp the night.

Day 6- Paddle 20km up the coast to Kusen Village for a warm welcome and cultural experience. An opportunity to dive through the “Hole in the Wall”. Experience true village life. Camp the night.

Day 7- Choice of having a rest day in the village, or boat ride across to Kar Kar Island, a large volcano, which we will trek to the top of for a view over the Madang Coast. *Possibility of paddling 10km back to Malolo Plantation Lodge to make the next day’s paddle a little easier.

Day 8- Paddle the long stretch (41km) back to Jais Aben Resort, with a few stops along the way to enjoy a wave or snorkel.

Day 9- Paddle back to stay at Krangket Lagoon, via the historical Alixishafen/Sek region, the WW2 base for both the Imperial Japanese Army and Allied forces. Camp on Krangket Island.

Day 10- Easy paddle back to Madang town. Relax about town and the Madang Lodge.

Day 11- Rest day. Last day in Madang. The option of a SCUBA dive.

Day 12- Fly Madang-Port Moresby. Tour concludes.
